Default Trapper Stuff

I need trapper gear. I know I need another set of armor (atleast 1 peice and the mask that is) for wilderness.

But its the weapon set I am asking about. I heard a wand/rod and offhand is better than any staff.

But what Mods on either of those? What mod on the wand/rod/etc, and what onthe offhand? And whts around the price of each?

I Searched btw..thats how I figured out what I have I heard some have minus energy regen for alot of energy..but I dont know the exact mods or what works best.

A green one I see looks promising (and cheap) the one with 10% chance at skill recharge and casting speed - mgiht help too - since i dont know how much nergy I can get out of a rod.

Default Trapper Items

Here's my suggestion for a Trapper Ranger:

While trapping, use a one-handed focus item that gives +12 energy. These are commonly found on collectors in the desert, and you don't need to meet the requirement to get the energy bonus. (See edit below.) For your weapon hand, use the fire wand found on the collector just outside of the Nolani Academy that gives +5 energy. Again, you don't need to meet the requirement on this item to get the energy boost, and you can easily obtain it for a few Charr Carvings. Together, you'd get a +17 energy bonus, with no loss of energy regeneration, which is better than any staff you might find.

While attacking, switch to your favorite bow, as the items mentioned above are terrible for combat.

Edit: I'm probably wrong about the req on focus items. See my next post below.

are you sure about that? i'm certain that you need to meet the requirement to get the full energy bonus for focus items. this is why staves are usually better because the energy bonus is unconditional. a max staff with a max insightful head gives +15 energy whether or not you meet the req.

Default Focus Items

Hm... You may be right. In that case, let me ammend my statement.

This works well if you use a focus item that relies on an attribute from your secondary profession, and you meet that requirement. (Usually the req is 9 for a +12 energy foci.)

If you can't afford to put points into an attribute for your secondary profession to meet the req for a focus item, then an Insightful Staff with +10 base energy and +5 additional energy from the Insightful mod is the best option.

a staff with 10 staff..mods either recharge skills or faster cast..or none at all.

for offhand... its 8.. and i think 12 for the other item.

The best staff you can put together for trapping is the +13 energy quest reward staff from Fires in the East with a +5 energy Insightful head. It doesn't have the x% improved cast/recharge, but I'm reasonably sure that's bugged anyway, so no big deal.

If you're going pure recharge then the way to go is a +5E>50 / 10% recharge to all mainhand(req doesn't matter) and a pre-nerf Rockmolder. This will net you 10+20% recharge chance (not a true 30% statistically, but close enough) and either +8 or +17 e; really though for a trapper, you are not going to be putting any points into your secondary, so you'll only get 3E from the Rockmolder. Go pure energy and you get +18E from the setup Pardoz mentioned. The middle ground would be the former mainhand and a dropped offhand foci with 10% recharge, 6 or more energy inherent, and armor or HP>50 as icing; that setup will net you 10+10% recharge and +11 energy (as dropped offhands give you 6 energy min without the req being met; vs. 3 for green/collector/quested).

Not sure what the best setup is though to be honest; probably +energy if you don't have 15-16 in expertise, recharge might be the win with a max expertise.

Right now I am going with that Nolani collector Fire wand (+5 energy inherent) and could put a +5 mod on it (I think), and 6 energy offhand :\

But for permanent I was thinking of 1 of them having Speed up casting/recharge effects, and the other part of the deal having +15 energy -1 regen.

I think Gorrel's Cane (+10% recharge, casting time) and an offhand that has 15 energy -1 e regen would be ok.

I personally use a Insightful Fire Staff with my ranger... it gives me +10 energy always... and also +5 energy always... that +15 contantly.

If anything, when I need to do real damage using a bow I quickly switch to my Half Moon bow and then back to the staff again.

Also the additional energy comes in handy when I need to recast Conjure Flame and I have no energy left

I just use a bow when I'm trapping.

Call me a stickler for 'traditional ranger'

"but how do you deal with your lack of energy you moron!!!"

Energizing Winds
Quickening Zephyr
Serpent's Quickness

HAH...

This is what you're talking about:

I still have one. I believe you get it from a quest in Piken Sqaure. Gives you +13 energy, and then you can add on an insightful head to boost it up. It helps...a lot. If you want my extra one, contact me in game: Sol Vie

The triple staff comes from "Fires in the East" quest via Captain Ame, Sol_Vie; I posted the progression here somewheres, just search.

And Former; energy degen is bad really, only real use I can think is to swap it in at the last to eek out a last trap or 2, but that's too many slots to occupy for my taste. If you want a recharge/speed, grab a Mogrif's Scepter since it has 10 to both.
